My husband just bought a guitar and I have been trying it out too....have got a few problems though! I am left handed and although I can probably manage the right handed guitar, I do not have the dexterity to control the pick in the right hand and end up strumming too many strings at one time.
Also I have VERY small hands, child sized in fact and this proves difficult when trying to reach certain notes. my fingers just don't reach...apparantly there are "stretching" exercises you can do. I don't think I want to do them as my fingers would have to deform in order for them to be useful for playing the guitar!
I see that learning the guitar is HARD! I used to play the flute and piano when younger but the guitar is a whole different ball game. However, I am inspired to learn how to play and get better.
It's very cool when a few strums actually is recognisible!
So far I can just about play a couple of intro's for:

Led Zep-Stairway to Heaven
Roll on Eric Clapton!
